About Us

Ric Troyer is a Vietnam Veteran and met Son Nu Ngoc Mai on a trip to Vietnam in September of 2000. That trip inspired the creation of a registered charity -- Canadian Friends of Vietnam Society -- which provides tricycles to land mine victims, along with rice and financial support to poor villages and orphanages in Vietnam. Canadian Friends of Vietnam also collected and shipped eight ocean freight containers of hospital equipment to hospitals in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Shortly after starting this work, Mai and Ric fell in love and were married. In 2004, Mai immigrated to Canada. They travel to Vietnam annually to ensure the funds are being administered as intended. During these trips, Mai, who is fluent in Vietnamese, Cambodian, Chinese and English, works with Ric, acting as a translator, helps find land mine victims in small remote villages, looks for those with medical issues and then liaises with other humanitarian organizations to improve the lives of the less fortunate.

Over the years, Mai has saved money from her wages to build a home for her father and niece who still live in a small village in Vietnam. She has also gone back to school to be trained as a Esthetician. Now fully licensed with over eight years of experience, she is committed to using the drive and work ethic she has shown throughout her life to build a successful business in Canada. Son Mai proudly opened Son Mai Spa September 20, 2010.
