Accessibilty 101
Kamloops Art Gallery
Saturday, May 12
11:30 am
Cost: $10 for individuals, $20 for organizations.
Registration recommended, email truphilosophy@gmail.com to register.
Accessibility is far more complex than most understand it to be. From door widths to support bars, lighting equipment to sound systems, trained volunteers/staff to seating and bathrooms - there are many forms of access that go into a venue and/or event.
In this workshop, learn how to plan accessible events, make your venue more accessible, and ask organizers and owners for information regarding accessibility. In addition, gain insight into what an accessibility audit involves and the importance of hiring a disabled auditor for these services.
There is no wrong place to start - no knowledge of disability or ableism is necessary for this or any workshops
This workshop is part of the Poetry, Art and Storytelling event at the Kamloops Art Gallery. Poetry, Art & Storytelling is a one day miniature festival with workshops and performances, focusing on accessibility, Indigeniety and the arts, organized by the Thompson Rivers University Philosophy Club and co-hosted by the Kamloops Art Gallery.
Join us for a day of creativity and critical reflection with Vancouver poets jaye simpson, Q, Coral More, Rabbit Richards and local artist Jeffrey Seymour-McNeil.
This event is FREE, with the exception of the Accessibility 101 workshop. A registration fee of $10 for individuals and $20 for organizations is associated with attending the Accessibility 101 workshop. To register, email the TRU Philosophy Club: truphilosophyclub@gmail.com or arrive the day-of.
